In the city of Basra, Iraq, we work with the country's authorities to develop the specialised services of the local health system in order to bring them up to international standards and the growing regional demand. Our investments are concentrated in oncology diagnostics and in the haemato-oncology and surgical departments of the Children's Hospital. We are also involved in training doctors in the paediatric field, in the renovation and expansion of the Basra Cancer Children Hospital and in the supply of oncology-specific medical equipment.
In Iraq, we operate in the field of hydrocarbon exploration and development, particularly in the area of the Zubair field. At the same time, to support local development, we carry out initiatives to promote health, and schooling, and to ensure greater access to energy and water in the region.

Project actions and objectives
In Basra for the right to a high quality health service
In Basra Governorate, where the Zubair field is located, we are working alongside the Health Directorate to develop specialised services in the local health system, responding to the growing demand in the region.
Thanks to the collaboration with Niguarda Hospital in Milan, the Nuclear Medicine Unit in Basra has a nuclear medicine department equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. On the other hand , through a collaboration with the Gaslini Children's Institute in Genoa, the city's Children's Hospital is being refurbished and equipped with a new oncology ward, bringing it up to international standards in terms of diagnostic capabilities and treatment protocols.
Training doctors and paramedics
In the Basra health district, we also support the training of doctors and paramedics in paediatrics with a training and mentoring programme. To support the diagnosis and treatment of complex cases, a remote service is in place via videoconferencing and telemedicine with the Gaslini hospital, as well as a system for taking care of Iraqi patients with the option of simultaneous care by the two teams.
